In Singapore, most of us turn on the air-conditioner when in our cars to provide comfort against the heat and humidity. This actually makes our car cabins even more susceptible to toxic air pollution. Take the following steps to ensure that your air-conditioner is maintained properly and performing at its optimum:
1) Before you engage the services of a car air-conditioning service workshop, check references and rates. Confirm the scope of work indicated in service packages. Insist on quality maintenance work and customer satisfaction.
2) Regular maintenance checks by your air-conditioner service workshop are necessary. You should have your air-conditioner inspected at least once every 10,000 km to ensure that the system is operating properly.
3) Ideally, the air-conditioner should undergo a thorough chemical cleaning once every six months.
4) Air-conditioners can double up as effective air-cleaning devices if fitted with appropriate cabin air-con filters. This also prevents dust from building up and clogging up the internal air-conditioner components. Inspect the filter once every 10,000 km to check if it is clogged up with debris and dust. If so, replace it.
